Q: What have you done with metal this week?
A: Glad you asked. However, I can’t say what it is yet. It’ll be a surprise. The picture above shows a piece of metal which I used for a roof.
Q: How would that be a roof? The metal's surface isn't straight at all.
A: Great question! To make the metal more malleable, I used a hammer to hit it constantly. When I hit the metal with the hammer, it made the metal more straight and more malleable. When you say a metal is malleable, it means that the metal can be bent easily.
Q: How did it turn out?
A: It turned out good. As you can see, the metal’s surface is straight. However, in this picture, the metal is rolled up.
Q: What was next?
A: After I got the original piece of metal into shape, I needed two pieces of metal shaped like half cylinders. So the first step was to get 2 pieces of metal.
Q: So how are the two pieces previously shown going to become half cylinders?
A: Well, over the past 2-3 weeks, I have been using the brake roll shear machine. So I used the roll to make the 2 pieces look like half cylinders.
Q: So now you have 2 half cylinders, and a straight piece of metal. What do you do now?
A: Well the half cylinders need to make a full cylinder. I could have made one piece to a cylinder, but it wouldn’t have a large diameter. The large diameter would be good for the roof.
Q: What about the straight piece of metal?
A: I got the metal to look like a triangle. The triangle would act as the roof.
Q: So now you have a roof, and a cylinder, but what was all of it for?
A: Alright, I was going to keep this for the end, but this is too good to be kept waiting for so long. Behold… The Tool Shed(still in construction). It looks nothing like a shed, but it’s a signature design.
Q: What else did you do with metal?
A: Well, in my Machines and Tools class, I am working with a partner named Ivan. Ivan wanted to learn how to use the roll so I decided to teach him. However, he was getting hungry, so I decided to taunt him.
Q: How did you taunt him?
A: Well, I taunted him by making him roll the previous piece of metal into a cylinder. The photo above shows how the piece of metal ended up looking. It reminded Ivan of a burrito, and yes, he got more hungry.
Q: In your last blog, you had a clean-up day. Do you still have clean-up days in your class?
A: Yes I still do have clean-up days. The picture above shows an electric car made by other students. However, the car needed to be cleaned a little.
Q: How did it look like after you cleaned it up?
A: The car's appearance didn't change that much after I cleaned it. However, if you compare the two photos, you can see some slight changes.
Q: Have you done any research about something related to machines?
A: Yes I have. The picture above shows a screenshot of a video I've been watching. It's about the electric brake roll shear machine. Here is the link to this video:
